Agency leaders at The Children’s Home officially opened the Day Treatment Building’s therapeutic garden in October. The space has been a goal of the DT staff for several years and it came to fruition despite the challenges of 2020. The outdoor space will provide therapeutic and calming spaces as well as tactile and sensory-friendly areas for young clients.
Some of the new
features at the Day Treatment Building’s outdoor garden include tactile and
sensory friendly spaces. These spaces are safe and creative outlets for young
learners who benefit from expanding energy or who are better tactile
communicators and learners than their more verbal counterparts.
Take a Rock, Leave a Rock. Clients who
enter The Children’s Home Day Treatment Program are invited to take a rock left
by a peer, therapist or other supporter as they integrate back into their
familial and school setting. The clients also leave a rock of encouragement and
well-wishes for future clients in the day treatment program.
